The Real Story of St. Valentine
This class has three components:
- Lesson Plan
- Slide Deck
- Speaker Notes
Each year on February 14th, many people exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their special “valentine.” The day of romance we call Valentine’s Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century, but has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia. For centuries poets have written poems & sonnets; artists have depicted Cupid, an angel of love in their paintings and musicians have cornered the market on emotional love songs. During this class we will examine the origins of Valentine’s Day and how we observe that holiday in modern times. Happy Valentine’s Day!
